Following the huge success of the Loudspeaker Riddim on the ever-impressive NY-based Mixpak Records, producer-DJ Poirier has linked up with Quebec City-raised colleague and rapper Boogat to create a fresh ‘n’ spicy interpretation pon the instrumental.
Although slightly less intense or conscious than Popcaan’s ‘The System’, which was released on the riddim in May, ‘El Hueso’ has that classic latin energy and vigour. Boogat’s stance on music says it all:
“We’re now in the post 2.0 music market and it’s not about selling records anymore, it’s about the show.”
..combined with Poirier’s approach:
“I am creatively seeking a new approach to rhythms. That’s what’s good about Boogat. He’s fearless with beats. He doesn’t care if its hip-hop or super-electronic music”
…and you’ve got an impressive duo!
If you’re looking for more Poirier, I’d thoroughly recommend ‘They Wanna Know’ (Tax Records, who’ve had a total of 4 releases!) or ‘Dem Nah Like Me’ (Shockout), both sampling vocals from Mr Lee G back in ‘06.
